Aimee, Merchandising Associate (Placement Year)
Tell us about your degree and placement at Blacks?
I am currently studying for my degree "International Business and Globalisation" at De Montfort University. My degree is mainly about looking at how businesses operate in the global market, and the theories behind this, also looking at globalisation and the effect that this is having on the world. I started my placement in June 2008, at Blacks Leisure Group as a Merchandising Associate on the Jackets Department.
How has Blacks helped your career goals?
Blacks Leisure Group is a great company to work for, and I feel that since joining the company I have vastly increased my personal skills, and that Blacks has helped me in achieving the goals that I set for myself prior to starting my placement. In terms of my future, and career, I feel strongly that I will return to Blacks following my placement, and that I would love to continue in a career within Merchandising and Retail.
What do you like about working for Blacks?
One of the best things about working for Blacks is the working environment and the people. Everybody is so welcoming and friendly which helped me settle into my position very easily. The working environment is also very challenging which is great, because I am always challenging myself, and developing my personal skills.
What has been the most enjoyable part of my placement?
The most enjoyable part of my placement has been to relate the theory I have learnt in the many lectures at university, to reality in the workplace. I have found the experience very beneficial to me both in my career and personally, and Blacks has been the best company that I could have done my placement year with.
