Adam, Finance
Manager
What does your role involve?
I’m responsible for the financial management and reporting. I have to oversee the purchase ledger, debtors ledger and production of a monthly trial balance. This combined with budgeting, forecasting, liaising with other departments and other adhoc queries enables me to highlight cost savings and support strategic decision making.
How has your role developed since joining Blacks?
I joined Blacks as a Financial Analyst for the Internet and the Freespirit fascia. I did that role for eight months until getting promoted to Finance Manager. Thus my career at Blacks has been fast moving and shows the opportunities to progress within the company.
What changes have you noticed in Blacks since you’ve worked here?
I have only been at Blacks for just over a year. But I have seen and experienced major developments. We have moved to new offices in Swan Valley. Since the new Finance Director has joined, the department has a new structure. New teams have been formed with realigned key responsibilities. We are also in the process of incorporating a new accounting system which should be in place in the near future.
What are the most interesting and enjoyable aspects of your role?
As the Internet Analyst I enjoyed aspects such as forecasting it’s growth and development. I have enjoyed the exposure and responsibilities given to me since moving into my current role. Both positions have emphasised the importance of my supporting role within the organisation.
What is the internal communication like at Blacks?
Communication within Blacks is excellent. There is an intranet which contains all sorts of company information from jobs to store promotion details. We also have a monthly briefing from the CEO who highlights current performance, issues, positives and future plans. This briefing also enables staff from all departments to meet. The head office is open plan and thus the atmosphere is very approachable.
